52" monitor achieved, now I can cruise from the couch. While my wife was out getting nails done with her mom, I was watching the kids and patiently figured out how to hook up my wife's old laptop to the big screen.

Actually a HP pavilion and some numbers at the end from about 2007-8. Prior to our engagement and during a "discussion" she hulk smashed it while closed, & it has issues with the screen connection, when open it'll sometimes go all static looking but put pressure on hinge area and all is well. It is new enough to have a HDMI port. I am not super computer smart, so this is an accomplishment.

*nerd to the rescue* she probably hulk-borked the display cable. HP DV6000 maybe? I wouldn't sink a dime into repairing it. Those bastards drop like flies.

I am a bit jelly of the 52"...Netgear just came out with a competitor to the chromecast...might be worth it!

Dv4 1004???? I'll look tomorrow, but googled the ati video card or whatever and Google was auto filling in the 5-6000 and its only a 3200. I'll only keep it for probably streaming races and web browsing ( does anyone say web surfing anymore?) Anything I can get to with a mouse and not have to type.

Oh, DV4...just as bad. HP's laptops up until 2013 have been utter crap. The actual model number should be on the bottom of it, possibly under the battery.

If you have to wiggle the display back and forth, or grab the left side hinge, you're looking at a display cable most likely.

You're giving it the most comfortable lease on life it could get. Watch out for the blinking caps lock/scroll lock lights. That's when the motherboard is toast.
